Objectives/History Summary

The whole concept of a voluntary non governmental effort is based on the willingness of many people to volunteer their time, money or both. In fact the ongoing viability of this effort can be directly measured by the enthusiasm of volunteers. If the World Assembly ever goes off course and loses its attractiveness to volunteers it will end.
During the Student World Assembly phase, volunteers can provide important help in:

  • Recruiting student participants, especially at new schools
  • Encouraging existing participants by e-mail and in person visits to participating schools
  • Publicizing this effort with local media and being available for interviews
  • Reaching out to others, such as religious groups, NGOs and other organizations
  • Translating the web pages and write up into local languages
  • Translating communication, especially by e-mail between students who don’t have enough English to participate directly
  • Facilitating elections, such as by recording proxy votes
  • Raising funds to finance local efforts such as the travel expenses of local delegates

Once the full World Assembly is launched, in addition to continuing the previous activities, volunteers will also be responsible for:

  • Becoming active and soliciting proxy votes for themselves
  • Running for elections as representatives and attending the annual convention
